Rhydian: More News from the blogs

What are people saying about last night's performance by the Rhydler?
OMG I Love her Style say, "I have now turned all my support to my second favourite the incredible Rhydian Roberts!!This week, he camped it up to the extreme with a cover of the Village People's Go West.he's the most fabulous and over the top contestant on the show!!!P.S. How can you not love a guy with a quiff like that?"
TV Scoop,"Clearly way outside his comfort zone tonight - and he admitted as much - Rhydian nevertheless once again showed what a true professional he is and gave everything to his performance. No matter what this guy does it's always entertaining and always worth watching"
Bright Vision, a blog that Thora Hird would still approve of gets it just about right"Rhydian’s performance was not his best but I still loved watching him and seeing his enjoyment as he performed. Tonight’s show was the least enjoyable for me. I hope the next week’s theme is better than disco. I was not so keen on the music chosen tonight. Rhydian is the only performer we can rely on"
____________________________________________

Exitainment, "They are always harping on about the acts being modern, then they set them themes like country music, or heavy metal week (actually, that would be amusing) then moan at them for not being contemporary." He goes on to say how all the acts left him cold including, "Rhydian- awful" then, "Dannii seemed to have a mild form of retardation that made her make stupid comments really loudly, followed by a 'woo!' "
_______________________________________________________
But X Factor post of the week goes to Gettographer which has a brilliant post titled, "Alisha to win X Factor" and dated 17/11. The entry has been edited at 9.30 to read, "Unfortunately Alisha didn't make it to the next round."

A post off topic: Songs for Leon

Ms Minogue has made some poor song choices for her artists but X Factor inside sources have revealed she has a brilliant song for Leon 'stage fright' Jackson in next week's show. Bright Eyes. Yes! Art Garfunkel's number one hit was about his dying father but is famous for being used in the rabbit film Watership Down. The sources further reveal that to complement Leon's performance style he will be dressed in full rabbit costume and the stage lighting will simulate the effect of car headlights shining directly into his face.
Let's hope he goes for the Matthew Butler version of the song from TISWAS (a style of singing that Leon could easily emulate) rather than the Garfunkel version. This could be just the performance that swings it for Leon.

Rhydian:Week 5 Rhydian sings Go West

On a slightly depressing note this wasn't the Rhydler's best performance. And it's difficult to put a finger on why. Listening back to the MP3 his vocals are spot on, perfectly in tune with a great climax at the end. And he looked like perfection. Maybe it is down to the song selection? There are some sublime disco songs out there and I feel that if he is going to do a camp disco song he should have gone for it more...a lot more choreography, a lot more strutting, he needed to really go over the top with that particular song. I got the feeling that Rhydian himself didn't really believe in what he was doing. And when it comes down to it maybe this is what we need to make the competition more interesting - to see a close race with Rhydian winning the nations hearts in the final against Same Difference who when they lose break down into a massive fit of depression.
If I am proved wrong and on Monday morning the Royal Navy report a large increase in applications to join them then I will take my comments back.
Judges comments:

Louis:As camp as Xmas. High camp
Simon:I don't feel I'm on the same show anymore
Danniii:We salute you Rhydian
Sharon:I love extremely camp

News of the Rhydian:The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

As tonight's episode creeps ever closer, a few bits of Rhydian News.
The good...
Unreality TV report that Girls Aloud have watched Rhydian's rehearsal of Go West. He believed his performance, wearing a navy uniform, might possibly be too camp but they told him he was brilliant and to "camp it up...the camper the better". Hmmm. Read the full report here.
the bad...
Blogger miss x states in a post titled 'Made in Wales, Made me Cringe', that, "...this man is not a pop star, which is what this competition is all about - finding The Next Big Thing. If there's any place that would suit The Riddler down to the ground it's musical theatre. Know what I mean?" Read the rest of her dribblings here, leave comments, etc..
...and the ugly
NOW magazine reports Danniii Minogue as saying, "I am not having any more Botox" Presumably because there is none left. She's had it all.

Radio Rhydian

Yesterday Rhydian gave an excellent interview to Ireland's RTE1 radio. Worth listening to for the Rhydler's take on how he has been portrayed by the media and the perception of him that the show's producers have given. He mentions that David Walliams wants him to appear in a sketch! And he talks about the conflict between being an opera performer and a pop star. But best of all in the broadcast is gushing co-presenter Brenda (self proclaimed Rhydian groupie number 1). She describes 'watching his performances as electrifying', she has 'never been more excited' and commends his 'sheer presence and stage command'

Listen to an archived stream here (interview starts 1 hr 8 mins into show)

Who will go tomorrow? Another post NOT about Rhydian

The question on everyone's lips "Who Will Go Tomorrow?" is usually met with the answer, "I don't care, as long as it's a brother/sister duo." In the betting world, however, there is much debate. From Betfair: "This week finds Alisha favourite to pack her suitcase... so Sharon theoretically is going to have to pull something astonishing out of the bag to stay on the show (this week, Candi Staton's Young Hearts Run Free). However, to avoid the nightmare scenario of the dreadful Osbourne being without talent in more ways than one, expect the other judges to talk Alisha up as if she were Maria Callas."
______________________________________
Interestingly it is not only the feelings of rejection and the fact that she will soon be crying on national television that Alisha has to fear. It is Sharon herself. Sharon has history of bizarre rituals when she parts company with artists she manages. In the 1970's she briefly managed singer Lynsey DePaul. When the pair split Sharon sneaked into Lynsey's hotel room, opened her suitcase full of clothes and urinated onto them. Alisha would be well warned to keep a close eye on her suitcase at all times on Saturday night.

Rhydian: You Won't Fool the Children of the Revolution

Less than 48 hours to go till we get more music and drama from the Rhydler and I got to thinking why it is that the man deserves to win so much. Is it the voice or the looks? The honest charm of the man? Maybe it's the way that he seems to wind so many people up that appeals? No! The reason he has to win is that he, almost single handedly, has brought back glamour to music. He has brought attitude, drama, spectacle and let's not forget sequins to a run of the mill Saturday night talent contest. When he first appeared standing in the middle of the audience in his furs during Get the Party Started (not even his best performance) you realised he had taken the competition by the scruff of the neck and was shaking it with disdain.
In last year's competition a dress worn by Leona became a best seller because she wore it in one show. This year I want the Rhydian effect to take hold - to brighten up this drab nation. I want Rhydian to be the second coming of Glam. I want everyone to get out their glitter, sequins and facepaint, and party like it's 1972.
Rant over.

Rhydian song for week 5: Go West

Made famous by demurely dressed Village People and the Pet Shop Boys this is possibly the perfect disco song for 2007 X Factor winner Rhydian. The song is “is a rallying cry for the colonization of the American West and is also generally understood as an expression of the 1970s sentiment of San Francisco as a utopia for the Gay Liberation movement “ according to Wikapedia's entry. But the Welsh Wonder is not going to sing it straight. According to his blog entry he is going to attempt to mash up disco, opera, dance and a Welsh male voice choir.
Rumours abound that Rhyd will emerge from a giant disco mirrorball at the beginning of the song dressed from head to foot in a silver spandex bodysuit but these have been denied by ITV. Expect your television and your brain to go into meltdown some time early Saturday evening.
________________________________________________
Although she's doing well for him this week Rhydian's mentor Dannniiii has yet again failed to find a song that Leon can connect with and make his own. On the official X Factor site she is quoted as saying, “We've tried really hard but there just aren't any disco songs about stage fright.”
_________________________________________________
Sadly, with an upbeat disco song the 'prozac pair' Same Difference are sure to survive. Where is the X Factor Jacques Brel or Leonard Cohen week when you really need it.

Rhydian: To be used by Met Office

The Exeter Express has reported that an image of X Factor 2007 winner Rhydian Roberts is to be used by the Met Office as the new symbol for frost. A spokesman for the weather forecasters is quoted as saying, "We saw Rhydian singing Get the Party Started in his sparkly suit, white furs and icy hair and knew instantly that he would make a perfect frosty weather symbol. We've been trying to update our symbols for some time to make the forecast more interesting to young people and we think Rhydian would be ideal for this." When he was asked if any of the other X Factor contestants could serve a similar purpose he said, "Well, we thought that Leon could be used to represent drizzle and someone suggested that Hope could be a symbol for one of those Summer days that starts warm and you expect to be hot but unfortunately just turns out to be tepid."

Reader Malcolm has suggested a song that he would like Rhydian to sing is Mother by John Lennon. It's a hard one, extremely personal, angry and brilliant, but it could work.

Rhydian: news from the blogs

In particular, news from Rhydian's blog on MySpace in which he talks about his coming performance on Saturday's show. He is 'knackered', modest as always and reminds us to vote for him. This week is disco week and the Rhydmeister says, "I'm going to be singing a very camp song... I am going to be having a Welsh male voice choir singing with me and that should make it a lot of fun." Fun?! Good God! Has anyone ever tried combining disco, opera, campness and Welsh male voice choirs before? Is he sure we can handle it?
It's just possible that we are seeing a new musical form being born here. He is only a contestant on a reality game show and here he is fusing genres, creating new art forms in front of your eyes on prime-time Saturday night television. This week could be the big one. In years to come people will say, 'where were you when Rhydian invented Discoperachoir?'
I for one can't wait.

Rhydian:news from the blogs

The Guardian online blog (almost as good a read as Peggy's Shirley Bassey blog but not quite) has a good article all about the Rhydler. Titled 'Get Ready for Rhydian' the article describes the Rhydian effect well, "The Welsh baritone is an unstoppable juggernaut who crashes through your Saturday peak viewing, grabs you by the lapels, bellows into your face and demands your undivided attention" The writer has a go at deciding who he looks like, " turning up for his Pink cover looking like Max Headroom styled by Liberace" and says why he must win, "we need someone as talented as Rhydian if the show is to make someone a real star."
___________________________________________
Also on the Guardian there is an article on bench pressing which mentions, "Rhydian has a claim to fame from a decade ago that ensures he'll get the votes of weight trainers across the land. Roberts, it turns out, was the junior Welsh bench press champion, and fifth best in the UK."
__________________________________________
And finally the story titled 'Rhydian does Westlife' on ITV.com is, unfortunately, not a report on the Rhydmeister's violent physical attack on Westlife, rather it is just a link to last week's video.

Pop Star in a Coma, I know, I know It's Really Serious

Another off-subject post: Lachrymose loser Andy Williams has been sobbing his heart out to ITN ,
"It just all goes so quickly. A few minutes ago I was in the very first audition. It's all happened so fast and then the bubble bursts"
The tear stained popstar-in-a-coma blabbered on, "I will carry on and see if I can try and be a singer. I love singing, I love dancing and hopefully I can pursue that and try and make something happen." You have been warned.

Songs Rhydian should sing: Life Is A Pigsty

Songs the Rhydler should sing #2:Life Is A Pigsty~Morrissey.
Avoiding the obvious choices of power ballads, Bond themes and Queen songs (although he would sing them well) I think Rhydian should sing this song, the centrepiece of miserable, Mancunian Morrissey's album Ringleader of the Tormentors. It begins with the sound of drizzle, a doom laden piano and a string section drone. Then Morrissey, "It's the same old S.O.S. But with brand new broken fortunes". After two verses the song changes to Morrissey sighing the title words over and over, his voice getting higher and more angst ridden till his marevellous falsetto tears your heart apart. An electric guitar hits in as he sings "And I'd been shifting gears all along my life. But I'm still the same underneath" And then climactically "Can you stop this pain...Even now in the final hour of my life. I'm falling in love again"
Just imagine Rhydian ripping apart the nation with this song. Life would never be the same again.

____________________________________________________
And think of Dermot shouting out to the audience, "It's Morrissey week this week on the X Factor. ARE YOU READY TO BE MAUDLIN?" But maybe best of all, what song would Same Difference do? They would definately be voted out in Morrissey week.

Sarah Harding wants Rhydian's Hair

The Sun, font of all knowledge, has reported that Sarah Harding is so obsessed with Wales's greatest living singer that she is thinking of adopting a Rhydian hairstyle when Girls Aloud appear on the show (the same news is duly reported in the excellent Sarah Harding blog)
Whether this is true or not we at The Rhydian Project have commissioned a leading artist to create an image of what she might look like. As you can see if she selects Rhydian's early hairstyle it suits her quite well.
Let's hope that Bjork is not Rhydian-mad enough to go the same way.

Rhydian:news from the blogs

What does the world of blogs think of the Rhydler's killer performance on Saturday?
The Bright Vision blog(the sort of blog that would be approved by Dame Thora Hird) reports:
"The performance of the night was Rhydian, which was no surprise to us! We both look forward to seeing and experiencing his performances, as we are never disappointed. I would love to have a DVD of his performances from the shows and see him perform. Last night’s performance ... was raised to a new height by Rhydian’s interpretation; it held us spell bound!"
They then spoil it a little by saying, "We always feel happy and uplifted whenever the group, Same Difference perform, as they are so obviously happy and put so much professionalism into each performance."

________________________________________
Peggy's Shirley Bassey Blog which is the place to go for all you Bassmeister information said: "Wow! Rhydian will win the UK’s X Factor singing contest!
He’s a kind of male vocal equivalent of DSB(Dame Shirley Bassey)… powerful, expressive, and born in music-mad Cardiff"
________________________________________
Perez Hilton who a week ago was slagging Rhydian "Think of him like the British Sangina or Gayken." now has had a suprising change of mind,"We may have misjudged Rhydian! He is our favorite on this season of the X Factor, but we thought he was a one-trick pony. A deliciously camp and over-the-top entertainer. Well, he is that….and much more."
________________________________________
Brilliant blog DanniisXFactor(quoting the Sun):"X Factor favourite Rhydian Roberts was stunned when David Walliams asked for a special audience with him."

________________________________________
and finally, The Shropshire Star never one for hyperbole, Louis Walsh told Rhydian: “I’ve heard hundreds and thousands of covers of that song and yours was one of the best I’ve ever heard."

Having to listen to thousands of covers of You Raise me Up sounds like some sort of Guantanamo Bay soft-torture technique. Maybe that explains why Louis seems so bewildered this series.

Andy Williams goes~a post that's NOT about Rhydian!

In an edition that shocked no one, last night Andy Williams was kicked off the X Factor. Although he tried desperately to gain telephone votes by raising and then wiggling both eyebrows, whilst looking straight into camera, it wasn't to be enough.
BBCi reports:"Dannii Minogue, apologised to him for choosing the wrong song for him to perform - Snow Patrol's Chasing Cars. "I feel terrible," she said (not as terrible as those of us who had to listen to him felt) The article then goes on to say, "Seven acts remain in the competition, including girl band Hope." Presumably even they are shocked that no hopers Hope remain.
_____________________________________
Simon said: "I think that was like eating caviar with salad cream." Andy looked confused at the analogy, others felt a little sick at the thought of Simon's bizarre eating habits. Then, in response to criticism by Dannii of being out of touch, Louis made the odd claim that Simon and himself were "...having hits in the charts you're not!"
Andy lost votes, was forced to sing again and then was promptly booted out. He started crying. If you switched over to ITV2 you could watch him crying some more. If you finished that you could then switch to ITV2+1 to watch him crying from the beginning again.

Songs Rhydian should sing: Johnny Remember Me

Songs the Rhydler Should Sing#1:Johnny Leyton~Johnny Remember Me
An occasional wish list of songs that Rhydian should sing inspired by the poor choice of a Westlife song for week 4 of the competition. These suggestions will steer miles clear
of the obvious - they will be either purposefully obscure or designed to annoy music snobs. Yes, of course, Rhydian could do sterling work on operatic material and the complete works of Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones and Queen as well as Radiohead's Creep but lets wish for something a little different.
Number one in 1961 for Johnny Leyton, this song about lost love has Johnny hearing the sorrowful voice of his girl sighing in the wind across the moors and in the treetops. Desolate lyrics over a jaunty western rock and roll beat, produced by the legendary Joe Meek. Rhydian would be perfect to make it his own. ______________________________________________________________
